Hello all,

Gwen is home and I am really happy. Rowan was so happy to see his sister. Gwen ate dinner on the floor next to his bouncer so he could watch her. I am glad they get along so well.

Tomorrow I have a coop at my house. We are planning history. We are using Story of the World 3. The SOTW books are really good especially for elementary level because it is told like a, well, story.

This article is being passed around the homeschool groups in my area.

California parents arrested -- Caught Home-schooling their children
without a teaching credential

California's home-schooled headed for public schools? Sacramento,
California - A three-judge panel from the 2nd District Court of
Appeals made it illegal on February 28 for any parent to home school
their child, unless they have a teaching or tutor credential. Upon
hearing the ruling, school districts officials began demanding that
police take immediate action. So yesterday, throughout the state,
judges secretly began swearing out and signing arrest warrants for
any parent who was suspected of home-schooling their children
without a teaching credential.

Setting up a special task force virtually overnight, SWAT teams and
truant officers armed with arrest warrants and automatic weapons
began rounding up wayward parents, and against their will placing
their child in protective custody and enrolling them in public
schools throughout the state.

Originally thought to be a logistical nightmare, distinguishing home-
schooled children from that of the public school system, officials
quickly learned they could gather up a list of suspects from last
year's contestants, finalists and winners of the National Spelling
Bee Contest, unusually high SAT scores and any kid who passed a
random drug screen and/or pregnancy test.

"Also, we followed home any polite, courteous or well adjusted
child," said Dug Martinez, SWAT Commander. "Oh, and any kid we
caught actually doing their homework at the library."

In the early morning predawn darkness, SWAT teams and truant
officers began their statewide sweep, crashing down the front doors
in quiet peaceful suburban neighborhoods, but mostly in rural areas.

"After the California Superior Court medical marijuana ruling, the
three-judge panel of the 2ND District Court of Appeals had to do
something to try to restore the proper checks and balances to the
political system that has been inadvertently eroded by that ruling,"
said a political scientist. "So they did what anyone would do in
their situation, they pointed the finger at a minority group to draw
away public attention from themselves."

"Also, they must have thought the ruling against home-schooling
would bring in badly needed federal education dollars to the public
schools for the upcoming recession, securing the liberal vote for
the elected incumbency from the teachers' union," said a legal
analyst from the Cassandra Institute Foresight School of Law.

"Overall, we netted a pretty good raid," said Officer Martinez. "We
arrested the parents. Put the kids in protective custody and
enrolled them in public school. We confiscated a whole bunch of high
quality, up to date learning materials, too."

Listed among the home-schooling educational material seized by
police: copies of "Plato's Republic; The Prince; The Magna Carta;
The Federalist Papers; The Declaration of Independence; The
Constitution and The Bill of Rights."

"You know until today's raid, I never even bothered reading this
stuff myself. Let alone read it to my kids," said Officer
Martinez. "I just found out we've alienated these good people out of
at least three of their inalienable rights. Now, that ain't right."

The home-schooling learning materials will be held in the evidence
locker to be used at trail, unless a plea bargain is reached, then
they will be properly disposed with, according to Officer Martinez.

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.

I like the part about confiscating "high quality, up to date learning materials". LOL

Hello all,

So I made it through the day without my Gwen. Rowan only called for her once during the day, but noticed she was gone when Dearan came home. We get up and down many times before Gwen joins us, but if Daddy is home Gwen should be around to play. LOL He was really cute calling and looking around. He got really mad when she didn't come though.

She called to say goodnight. It was so cute she wanted me to "rock her" so I sang Rock-a-bye Baby to her and told her I loved her. She wanted to talk to Rowan, but all he wanted to do was eat the phone. She is having a good time, but is sad that Grandmamamamamama won't let them have a camp fire. HOW DO YOU CAMP WITH OUT A FIRE! Oh well, when the Drum Campout rolls around in May she will have a huge fire and for the April Event.

We went to Walmart together, but when we came home Dearan started playing Civilization and didn't say two words to me for the rest of the night. So I took a shower and went to bed. He stopped around midnight when Rowan woke up and was surprised to find that I had already gone to bed. When I got Rowan settled back down I couldn't sleep so we spent some time together, but it is after 1 and I am still up. I need sleep.

I am going to try to lie down hope you had a restful night.

Hello all,

I am so sad right now. Gwen just went off with her Grandmamamamamamamama to Melbourne and is leaving for St. Augustine in the morning. She will have a wonderful time camping with her grandparents, but we miss her so much already. It is very quiet here and we aren't used to it. Rowan hasn't figured out she is gone yet, but in the morning when he gets up around 10 he will be looking to play. She will be back on Friday and then she will have lots of stories for us. I really enjoyed my trip to St. Augustine when I was in 4th Grade. The oldest City in the US still going, it is a cool place. She promised that she would buy me post cards and take lots of PICS. Anyway, I am going to bed before the baby wakes up for a snack. LOL

Screwed or not to be screwed? That is the question

OK, so Dearan spoke to the Archery shop and the guy was insistent that we had discussed ordering the bigger bow in another brand, but not in this brand. However, “We don’t want you to be unsatisfied. So I am ordering the other bow.” I am so happy that I am going to get the bow I asked for, but am a little annoyed that we had to fight so hard for it. Of course this weekend was the event and I found out that Dearan ordered the wrong tips for the arrows. Maybe I am not meant to shoot. I hit the bullseye and it bounced off. I was SO PISSED

The Adrian Empire event went ok. I didn’t get to see any of the combat at all because they insisted on fighting on a sever slope that was on the other side of the camp. I think they are doing it just so the arts people can’t participate in both. They are trying to force people to choose. So I did. They asked me to be the list mistress and I said I had to be at the Arts Pavilion. They were also short on water bearers because we were all at the arts pavilion. I am glad Dearan is smart enough not to fight on that hill. If he was to get injured and not be able to work we would loose the house and he knows that. I am glad he is man enough to say that it isn’t safe and he won’t risk his health.

I don’t have any pictures because I was so busy, but I was happy to see 3 arts projects entered. Now that there are more judges I can enter projects. I am going to make bread or stew. I haven’t decided yet. Gwen made clay figures out of Model Magic and I think she can enter it if I can give her the documentation and she can recite it.

Gotta go the baby is crying.

It's starting to look like screwed :-(

Hello all,

So Dearan called them to day and the lady said "That is why I don't like to do special orders! How can you own a small business and not like to do special orders. She also said something about having security cameras. I don't know what she thinks I we are going to do, but I for one feel much better knowing that she has security cameras. That way if I get robbed in the parking lot as well as in the store it will all be recorded. (No, I am not bitter it is all in the way you are reading it. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!) She asked us to wait until Tuesday when the guy we dealt with gets back. I guess he went somewhere where there are no phones. So we are waiting and Dearan is really mad at me. I asked him to go with me to get it on Sat, but he wanted ME to pick it up yesterday. If he had been there we would have found the problem before they had our money. Then I am sure they would have been more willing to reorder or something.

Looking for the silver lining. The arrows fit our canton bow so I can use that. If they won't fix it I will have to order arrows (from somewhere else) to fit the bow I have. It will be ok for me, but Dearan will still be without a bow.

If he yells at me again I think I will have to point out that I asked him to go with me, but he was too impatient.
